James Corden has had a number of superstar musicians in the passenger seat over the past few years in segments, including Justin Bieber, Adele, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, One Direction, Madonna, Foo Fighters and Kelly Clarkson. But during next week's special series of Late Late shows taped in his native England, he's promising some official music royalty.
“I can't wait for you all to see this,” Corden tweeted on Wednesday morning (June 13). “It was a day that will live with me forever.” The tease includes a retweet from the show that confirmed reports that Sir Paul McCartney will slide into the left-hand passenger seat for a round of “Carpool Karaoke” next week during the four-night sojourn in London, complete with the photo of th two men hugging.
McCartney and Corden surprised fans on Saturday (June 9) when they were spotted at several iconic Beatles sites in Liverpool, including a Beatles statue, McCartney's childhood home and the Penny Lane roundabout mentioned in the Beatles song. While in Liverpool, he also made a stop at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms, where he played a set with members of his band. The Liverpool Echo reported that tickets were being offered yesterday to locals for a “secret gig” with a global superstar.
Corden will be broadcasting from the Central Hall Westminster in London next week. According to Deadline, McCartney will give Corden a tour of his hometown of Liverpool as they sing a medley of McCartney's hits, while other guests on the overseas trip will include Chris Pratt, Damian Lewis, J.J. Abrams, Ruth Wilson, Cher, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Niall Horan and the Foo Fighters.
