Marty Brennaman to drive pace car in Quaker State 400
The Enquirer/Phil Didion

Some have suggested that longtime Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman has paradoxical opinions about All-Star first baseman Joey Votto.

Brennaman has made it clear – as recently as 2017 – that the Reds "made a bad deal when they signed Joey Votto to a 10-year contract" and "I'd trade him yesterday."

More recently, he's insisted that Votto is the best pure hitter in team history, and said in an interview published earlier this week by sportsannouncersreportcard.com that "Votto will go down as the greatest hitter in the club’s history. Pete Rose has the most hits – but Votto is the best hitter."

You’re not afraid to express your opinion. You’ve been critical of Joey Votto, Cubs’ fans and others. Any regrets?

Regrets? No. Not at all. If I needed to say something – I did. … As for Votto, I said I felt corner infielders should hit for power and drive in runs. The irony of it all – last year he did.

Which begs the question: What does Marty think now of the contract Votto signed in 2012? Stay tuned …
